Carunalaka came across Triratna (then FWBO) in Sydney in 1998 and was ordained in New Zealand in 2009. Her name means Red Lotus which can be interpreted as 'purified by the rain of the Dharma'.
She has worked in Buddhist right livelihoods including Bodhi Books and Gifts in Sydney and Breathworks and the India Dhamma Trust in the UK. She has also lived in spiritual communities both in Australia and the UK and has found living and working with other practitioners to be among her most valued sangha experiences. Now retired and living with her partner in Glasgow, she enjoys the freedom to engage in a variety of activities including writing, camping and sharing the dharma as widely and often as possible.
